DIY: Mini succulent and cacti garden

I've been pinning these little mini terrariums for ages and when my friend and cousin-in-law Lisette asked me if I wanted to make some together, I immediately said yes! So last saturday, before we had a pizza and wine party, we went to a garden shop and bought everything we needed!

enough choice, this was cacti heaven!

What we used:
  • A glass vase or container with a large opening
  • Cacti and succulents in different sizes
  • Cactus mix soil
  • Gravel
  • Moss
  • Tweezers (trust me, those babies sting!)
  • Handgloves

Steps:
  1. Pick out succulents that you would like to use in your terrarium.
  2.  Select a glass container. Remember to choose a container with a wide opening to prevent accumulation of moisture.
  3. Place a 2-inch layer of gravel on the bottom of container; this provides drainage.
  4. Place a layer of cactus mix soil, a fast-draining soil that retains little moisture.
  5. Add accents or garden ornaments, such as cement mushrooms; iron birds and snails; large river rocks; and glass bugs and spiders.

Berry Mojitos

The other night I decided to make us mojitos, but we didn't have any ice cubes, so I added some frozen berries and it was actually pretty tasty.

What you need for two berry mojitos:
140 ml rum • tonic • 4 ts fine cane sugar • 24 mint leaves • 2 limes • strawberry lemonade • a handfull of frozen berries (I used blueberries and raspberries)

What you do:
Put some strawberry lemonade in bowl and dip in the edge of the glass, so the cane sugar will stick to it properly.
Use half a lime to squeeze out the juice and divide it between the two glasses, cut up the other half in small parts and divide those too. Add 2 table spoons of fine cane suger and 12 mint leaves to each glass. 'Muddle' this for a bit, so the lime juice, mint and sugar mix a bit. Add 70 ml of rum to each glass, throw in some frozen berries and use the tonic to fill up the glass. Use the other lime to cut out some decorative slices.

Guest Blogger: Shannon - DIY Skull t-shirt

Remember Shannon? She's the one with whom I made the 'Cutting up old t-shirts' DIY. She made another awesome one; The Skull T-shirt! She's guest blogging here to show you how!
1. Print out the drawing below in the size you want. Shannon printed it on multiple pages and taped them together.
2. Cut out the stencil:
3. Use a pencil or pen to trace the edges of the stencil onto your t-shirt.
4. Cut out the image and you're done!

That sounds easy, but it takes a lot of patience to cut out all those little pieces.

But it does look pretty awesome, right?!

DIY: Cutting up old t-shirts

After seeing loads of photos of old t-shirts which were made into something more.. edgy, Shannon and I decided to try it ourselves.

You need: Old t-shirts and scissors! We thrifted the t-shirts. Cut of the neckline hem and the sleeves all the way down to the waist (see drawing below).

Shannon deciding what to do with her t-shirt.

The t-shirts I'm cutting up.

Tadaa! Our finished product :) My mom made my jeans into these shorts with lace!

We made some more DIY t-shirts:

Bulldog planter make over

Remember this little dude I've bought at a thrift store? I knew I wouldn't use it as a planter, but I did have some other things in mind, so I gave him a little make over with my favorite color of spray paint!

I had to clean it first, because of all the dust he collected at the thrift store it had some stickers on it which had to be removed. When he was clean, I took my spray paints: Minty green and sea green it was. I first gave it a layer of minty green paint and set it aside to let it dry. For that little bit of extra I spray painted a little bit of a darker color as a 'mist' on it. I really like how it turned out!

Now he's on my desk right next to me holding my pens and pencils.
Isn't he cute?

DIY: Your own envelopes + Giveaway

I'm recently into making my own envelopes. It's pretty easy to make and super cute to mail out. Let me show you how I do it!
There's a giveaway at the end of this post :)

What you need:
Paper (vintage, cute patterns, maps, music sheets etc.), plain envelopes of the size you want, glue, pencil, scissors, washi tape, regular tape.

Take a plain envelope, take it apart and fold it out. Trace the  edges of the envelope onto the paper you want to use and cut it out with your scissors!
Make all the folds in the right places, just like the plain envelope you unfolded and glue your envelope together like above.
I like to use washitape for the edges, because the envelope will be more sturdy, I also use regular tape all over the envelop after I noted the adress on it.

The Giveaway:

  • Leave a comment below and make sure your email adress is in it so I can contact you!
  • I will pick a winner next week and I'll announce the winner on monday, may 28th.
  • The winner will receive one of these envelopes filled with some paper goodies and a personal note from me!

DIY: Chevron patterned paper

For this layout of Buddha I used a patterned background I made myself. Let me show you how!
Supplies: White Bazzil, watercolor, water and a brush.

Use any color you like and just add the pattern! It doesn't have to look really neat.

This is what mine looked like!
Now let it dry completely and start scrapping!

Gift Wrapping

A lot of people ask money for their birthdays. I understand, I like to get money too, but it isn't always fun to give, specially when it's your dad! So I wanted to make him something pretty to go with it. First I've made this 'money envelope'.

Added a little personal note..

Later that week I (well, actually a friend) found a Scrabble game, which he likes to play. It was thrifted, so a perfect thing to go with the money. I also added a Scrabble Magnet with SRF, his initials. I like me some fancy giftwrapping, so I added a doily:

And wrapped it all up nicely!
