Event: Michelin star quality dinner at De Boekanier

Last sunday we (Wouter, Maikel, Lisette and me) went to a special event, right here in our home town, Zaandam. One of the local restaurants, De Boekanier teamed up with a Michelin chef, Timo Munts, to serve a Michelin star quality dinner (and lunch) for a very nice price!
For only € 45,- we got an amuse, a 4 course dinner with 2 different matching wines per course, table water and coffee. Good deal huh? If you want to see the full menu, read on!

First of all, it's pretty hard to make good quality pictures of food in a romantic ambiance, so I had to use my flash and some of the photos I got from the Facebook of De Boekanier.

Bread and butter to start, with a delicious glass of prosecco.

The amuses: Home smoked duck breast with fig compote and duck liver, crostini with Roquefort and a pecan nut. And cauliflower atjar with a curry mayonnaise:

The starter: Beef tartar with a crab coulis, potato salad, chives, cream and herring caviar.
The wines: Diznoko Tokaij Dry & Schloss Reinartshausen Riesling Trocken.

In between course: Dab filet with a dragon crust, a celery chutney and a warm remoulade sauce.
The wines: Macon Lugny Saint Pierre, Bouchard Pere et Fils & Sauvignon Wild Rock Elevation.

The main course: Grilled deer, with sauerbraten from the bone, sprouts, creamy onion compote with cloves, a croquette from 2 different kinds of potato, a blood sausage chip and a lovely red port sauce.
The wines: Castillo de Molina Merlot & Dow's Vale do Bomfin.

Dessert: French toast from Dutch sugar bread, compote from Elstar apples and vanilla, Granny Smith jelly, little cubes of fudge, marzipan sabayon, gingerbread crunch, cinnamon ice cream and honey cress.
The wines: Chateau Grand Jauga & Muscat de Rivesaltes Mas Amiel.
We had a wonderful and fun dinner. We loved every course and it's really fun and interesting to try different types of wine with a dish. It was a super fancy dinner, but in a relaxed atmosphere. I really recommend doing this when you got the chance, or hop by for a normal dinner, because they're really good too. They also host wine tastings 2 times a year, those are lots of fun too, if you're interested in them, like their Facebook page to stay updated!
